I want to go back to when.......

things meant more.

When Saturday morning cartoons were special.

To when Acri Creature Feature was something to look forward to on Friday nights.

To when professional wrestling on Week TV 25 was something to argue about because though we thought it was real, when we knew it was fake.

To when we could complain about Week TV 25 pre-empting professional wrestling on Saturday's for the spelling bee.

To when Captain Jinks and Salty Sam were looked forward to after school no matter how cheesy the production values were.

Neighborhood kids would go door to door selling subscriptions to Grit magazine.

Neighborhood kids who would go door to door to get enough kids together to play football or baseball.

To looking forward to when your best childhood friend would return from their family vacation.
To when a summer vacation meant something and really lasted three months.

To looking forward to a real anticipated movie instead of having fifteen average movies to go to.
To buying a snowcone where the flavored juices went all the way to the bottom to the chipped ice.

To going to a real penny candy store.

To going back to schools so you could see that first crush again.

To May, when you could again start thinking about that real summer vacation again.

And to all of those things that I'm certain I'm missing.................

I would love to go back to some of that myself. The sad thing is, most kids today wouldn't have a clue what you were talking about.

"I want to go back to when...."

The days when the controlling wing of the GOP made sense and had good arguments and decent policy, which led to healthy debate and give-and-take on Capital Hill.

A time whend the arguments between the two parties were of some value to the public, and had to do with taxes and laws and big vs. small government, instead of today when it's all about who goes to church more and keeping groups of people from having the same rights as their fellow Americans.

A time when the House and Senate and Supreme Court had a say in how this country was to run, and power was not being greedily grabbed by a few sicko neo-con fundamentalist chickenhawks who claim to be acting in our best interests.
